Monday's Not Coming
9/14/26 rating:9/10
Okay so it's been a while since I read this book but it was soooo good. Probably not the best read if you aren't into sad traumatic reads because this book is VERY traumatic and after reading you're absolutely gonna be devastated but it's so worth it in my opinion. Like I said I haven't read it in a while but the main character is a girl named Claudia who was away for the summer and returning to school expecting to see her best friend Monday, who hasn't written her letters for a while which is pretty odd. She goes to school and feels like an outsider like most of her life except one thing is different, Monday never came. This is really strange to Claudia who starts investigating looking for answers but no one around her seems to take this seriously.
Spoilers ahead (tw:abuse)
(Sooo I don't really remember a lot of the details but dw abt that u get the point.) She keeps digging but getting nowhere. All the school has to say is that she got pulled out of school and does homeschooling now. Her mother discouraged her from going over to Monday's house all her life, instead hanging out at her house, and so she isn't pleased she wants to find out more about Monday's homeschooling. Over the course of the book Claudia has flashbacks to her childhood and now starts to piece together that Monday always had a bad home life, she just never realized. Monday even tried hinting to her about her abuse using the book Flowers in the Attic. During the time she is searching for clues about Monday, no one in her life seems to take it seriously. You really get enraged because Claudia seems to be the only one that cares. In the end, she figures out Monday's mother was severely abusing her and her siblings and left Monday to rot in a freezer. But as she is explaining what happened it's revealed that was 2 years ago and she was trapped in her own memories to cope. The whole twist is super good and I wish I remembered the book better 😭. Writing this review is honestly inspiring me to read it again cause it's been like 2 years since. It was so sad though which is probably why I never picked it up again, like this is a book you read once and once only 😭. Over all, I rate it a 9/10. It would be a 10 but it's just so depressing and real (I think it was even based on a true story.)
